The 5th Annual Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker
Run was recently held on June 6th, 2009 at the
Knight’s of Columbus Hall here in Marion.
This year was our most successful year to date.
920 motorcycles with over 1,500 people came from
10 different states, some from as far away as
St. Petersburg, Florida to honor Marion County
hero, Deputy Sheriff Brandy Winfield. Last year
I said I was amazed at the record crowd and achievements
for 2008. This year was simply off the charts
to say the least.
In these darker economic times we sometimes look
to tighten our belt and cut spending where we
can to make our way to better times. To combine
the economic struggles we all face and see such
significant growth in this annual event is such
a fantastic thing to be a part of. As we started
planning the event in December 2008, we were faced
with some significant uncertainties on cost and
participation. Understanding what we faced, our
team met the challenge to raise $20,000 to be
donated to worthwhile causes chosen by the Winfield
Family. I am happy to report that the challenge
was accepted and surpassed. We recently donated
a total of $25,000 to the Steve Young Memorial
F.O.P. Lodge # 24 and the Richwood Police Department.
I cannot begin to thank the people that come
to Brandy’s annual Poker Run yearly and
help us keep his memory and principles alive in
Marion County and Central Ohio. To simply say
thank you is not enough, but thank you anyways!
You are what make’s Brandy’s annual
Poker Run what it is today. Along with that, to
my team that puts many long hours in to make this
event run so smoothly, you are the ones that deserve
to hear the many “Great Job” &
“Awesome Event” compliments that I
get to hear so often. Your help and devotion to
making this event be the best it can be is a great
thing to be a part of. Thank you so much for all
that you do and sacrifice. Team members are Chad
Stallsmith -Vice Chairman, Missy Pierce - Secretary,
Jeff Manley - Treasurer, Karen Jerew – 3
Year Trustee, Tim Tanner – 2 Year Trustee,
Pam Lowe – 1 Year Trustee. Staff Members
Diane Tanner, Greg Layne, Danny Jerew and Dave

The support of many businesses and individuals
also contributed to make annual fundraiser a success.
