Biography: Brandy Lyn Winfield
Deputy, Marion County Sheriff's Department
Brandy Winfield
always aspired to be a police officer, following
in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
While attending Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School
in Marion, Ohio, he studied law enforcement in
their specialized program. While in high school,
he joined the Marion County Sheriff's Department
explorers program in 1992. Brandy enjoyed meeting
the younger school children throughout Marion
County to promote careers in Law Enforcement.
In 1994, at the age of 18 while
still attending high school, Brandy was hired
as a dispatcher at the Marion County Sheriff's
Department. After graduating high school and gaining
his Ohio Peace Officers Certificate, Brandy began
working in the jail at the Marion County Sheriff's
Department in 1997.
In September of 1997, he joined
the Plain City, Ohio Police Department as a patrol
officer. In 1998, Brandy decided to accept a position
in the jail back at the Marion County Sheriff's
Department and during the latter part of 1998
Brandy was promoted to the road patrol. While
living in Richwood, Ohio, Brandy sought other
avenues to help people. In April of 2000, he became
a firefighter with the Northern Union Volunteer
Fire Department.
During 2002, Brandy helped local
contractors build a new Winfield home in Marion,
Ohio. In the spring of 2004, Brandy became a certified
Scuba Diver and joined the Dive Team with the
Marion County Sheriff's Department. Brandy never
being satisfied and always setting new goals for
himself next set his sights on becoming a K-9
officer with the Marion County Sheriff's Department.
He wrote a letter of interest to become a K-9
officer on the night that he lost his life.

of Marion, Ohio.
- Graduated from Marion Harding High School,
1994.
- Awarded his Ohio Peace Officers Certificate
from Marion Technical College, 1997.
- During the summer of 2002, Brandy helped to
build the new Winfield home in Marion, Ohio
and proudly moved his family into the home in
October 2002.
- Spring 2004, awarded his certification as
a scuba diver and joined the Marion County Sheriff's
Department Dive Team.
